Who qualifies to live at the FRMMH?

We are a mission home dedicated primarily to missions. We prioritize applicants with financial need in this order: Missionaries on furlough; missionaries raising support; retired missionaries; Chicago-based missionaries; full-time students preparing for the mission field; full-time students preparing for state-side ministry; those locally employed in cross-cultural ministry.

Is this short-term or long-term housing?

We offer month-to-month leases, which allows for varying lengths of stay at the FRMMH. Most of our tenants are here for 1-3 years. 

Is there "summer only" housing available? 

This is an option, when we have room. Email the managers to check availability.

How long does it take get an apartment at FRMMH?

Anywhere from 2 months to 2 years, depending on your qualification status, your move-in-date flexibility, and availability of apartments. 

What is the application process?

Fill out the application form by clicking here. Upon receipt, you'll receive an email notifying you of your status and likelihood of an available apartment. If there is no availability, your application will be kept on file.

Is there air conditioning at FRMMH?

Tenants may purchase one window air conditioner, or two for a two bedroom apartment. There is a $30 fee for installation and a $50 charge per month from June - September.

For which size apartment do we/I qualify?

Single: studio only.
Married: studio or 1 bedroom.
Married with 1 child: 1 bedroom.
Married with 2-3 children: 2 bedroom.

May we have pets at the FRMMH? 

We have a no pet policy, including aquariums.

What is the rent?

  • Studio: $590/mo

  • 1 Bedroom: $710/mo

  • 2 Bedroom: $850/mo

Are utilities included?

Yes, utilities, including internet service, are included in the price of your rent.

Is there extra storage space in the building?

Yes, each apartment includes a separate storage locker approximately 4x6. There is also bike and stroller storage available. 

Is there laundry?

Yes, the building has 3 laundry rooms accessible to each apartment via enclosed back stairways. 

May I have a roommate?

Yes. Two roommates are allowed to share a studio. Both roommates need to fill out an application. Roommates are not allowed to share a one bedroom.  

What are the terms of the lease?

The lease is month-to-month. Tenants must give a 30 day notice of vacancy in writing; and likewise, FRMMH may give any tenant a 30 day notice to vacate.

Is a security deposit required or move in fee required?

Yes, upon acceptance, a payment in the amount of one month’s rent is due, in order to secure the apartment. 50% of this payment is a security deposit, which will be returned when you move out, if your apartment has been well cared for and is clean. 50% of this payment is a move-in fee, which will not be returned to you.  

What is parking at the FRMMH like?

There is easily available street parking at FRMMH. Parking is free on Mozart Street. McLean Street requires a permit. Both require a Chicago City Sticker.
